In the wake of last month’s Autumn Statement, when the Government announced their commitment to improving the A14, the Department of Transport has launched the A14 Challenge.
The challenge focuses on finding long term solutions to the A14 capacity and congestion issues, in particular around the Ellington to Fen Ditton.
Dooley Rumble is backing Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce petition for the improvements to the A14 at Fen Ditton, near Cambridge, west of Huntingdon.
The original scheme to create a new six-lane route, replacing the heavily congested four-lane section, was scrapped by the Department of Transport in June 2010 as part of the Government's cuts.
There is mounting speculation that Ministers may do a U-turn in a bid to stimulate growth and revive the economy. The East Anglian Daily Times reports that a revised scheme for the A14, possibly involving tolls may be announced as part of Chancellor George Osborne's Autumn Statement, due to be delivered next Tuesday.
Both the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk Chambers of Commerce are urging Businesses and motorists to sign the petition to highlight the importance of upgrading this section of the A14.
Warren Diduca, Dooley Rumble’s Distribution Manager, said "The A14 is a vital route between the Midlands and Felixstowe Port, the largest container port in the UK. The Cambridge section of the A14 has congestion on a regular basis which affects all motorist. Improving this section of the road will reduce congestion and create free flowing traffic. For a logistics company this will help to reduce fuel cost which is a vital saving in today’s economic climate, and ensure that we are better able to service our customers demands."

With these issues the below guide should be of help in making some of the decisions.
Filling up your car is something the majority of us have to do on a regular basis. So we have all seen the rocketing increase in the cost of fuel. In January 2010 the average cost of petrol was 111p per litre and diesel was 113p, the comparison for this month is 126p for Petrol and 130p per litre for diesel.
